Andrew Huberman interviewed Dr. Sarah Gottfried about women’s health and there was a particularly interesting part of the conversation where she’s sharing about a specific negative outcome for women’s health. He asks why she thinks this is and she answers - “patriarchy.” He acknowledges is, no follow up questions. He is a scientist and researcher. He knows good and well what women in this country face. The evidence is all over the research. He may make helpful podcasts but he’s also part of the problem. Women gossip to keep each other safe. People who don’t understand this either are either living in a male body that could not possibly comprehend what it’s like to live with this level of feeling unsafe, or have internalized misogyny that also blocks you from acknowledging this. Women are extremely unsafe in this country and this is constantly made invisible. Huberman is part of the problem and any time women know this about men in power, it should make headlines. He admits he’s a long time advocate for being in therapy - time for narcissism recovery, Huberman.

I am as conflicted as you are about the outcome, but do understand how the IRS bookworms can convince a reasoanable person it is owned income taxes on expenses that were written off as income (loss). FTX, et. al. were in a spending spree and someone has to pay the piper, that piper being Uncle Sam. At least they are low in priority as for who gets paid first.

FTX received something of value, deposits from customers that they used to invest. That is income that is subject to income tax. The issue wasn't really whether or not this is so it was really just about calculating the amount.

I thought taxes ranked higher than customer deposits in bankruptcy.

It's not the "cookie jar" Carly, it's called legally owed tax liabilities, which SBF, family and friends seem to have ignored or forgotten. Why should any fraudster get away with contingent liabilities leaving regular taxpayers to fill the gap?

So much crypto investments were sold with a wink and a nudge because you can hide transactions from the government, i.e. evade taxes. Without a paper trail, FTX have no way to show that they don't owe these taxes. If you've ever gone through a tax audit, you absolutely have to prove to the IRS that you don't owe them money.
